The Unit 2 District, with schools in Serena, Harding and Sheridan, will be closed until Nov. 2, and the schools will be going to fully remote learning the next two weeks because of an increase in COVID-19 cases in the area, Superintendent Spencer Byrd said.
Additionally, a letter was issued Monday indicating a staff member within the Serena Unit 2 School District tested positive for COVID-19.
Administrators confirmed the staff member was "never in close contact" with any students prior to testing positive and during the exposure period. The school district is working with the La Salle County Health Department in that matter.
A few staff members and students also are symptomatic and are being quarantined until test results are returned.
For anyone in your home 18 years and younger, food will be available for pick up the remainder of this week due to remote learning. Individuals may pick up at Sheridan Grade School front doors or Serena High School cafeteria. Individuals should stay in their cars and school staff will bring out food, or individuals should walk up to the doors. No one is allowed in the buildings. Delivery is also available. To reserve meals, call 815-792-5410 or email email@example.com.
Anyone with questions or concerns should contact the principal of their school.
