Kane County's rolling positivity rate hits 10% as 166 new cases reported Saturday

Two new deaths reported

KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Saturday reported 166 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and two new deaths, a woman in her 70s and a man in his 80s.

That is a decrease from the 223 new cases reported on Friday. The total number of cases in the county is now 15,091. The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 340.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 10 days of positivity increases – meeting one criteria for stricter mitigation measures – and five days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate increased from 7.4% to 7.9%. Currently, 29% of medical/surgical beds and 41% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County's rolling seven-day positivity average jumped nearly a full percentage point once again and is now 9.9%.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health will monitor if these indicators show an increase in COVID-19 disease burden with a simultaneous decrease in hospital capacity or if there are three consecutive days greater than or equal to 8% test positivity rate (7 day rolling).

These indicators can be used to determine whether additional community mitigation interventions are needed for a region to control the further spread of COVID-19.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,629 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 27 additional deaths Saturday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate rose from 5.1% to 5.2%. The state received the results of 77,489 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday afternoon. The recovery rate is at 97% as of Oct. 16.

Illinois now has seen 339,803 total cases of the virus and 9,192 people have died.
