Indicted Dixon man now facing 11 counts of child sexual assault, abuse

DIXON – A 47-year-old Dixon man indicted last year on 9 counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 is facing additional charges for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 17.

Jason E. Johnson, arrested on May 17, 2019, was first charged after a Lee County grand jury indicted him on five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 Felony, and four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X Felony.

The 9 counts stem from the spring of 2013 and involve the same 11-year-old victim.

Lee County prosecutors charged Johnson on Sept. 29 with two more counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for a 2011 assault of a victim, "who was at least 13 years of age, but under the age of 17," according to charging documents.

Johnson's arrest for the initial nine counts resulted from a six-month investigation by the Dixon Police Department.

A jury trial in that case had been scheduled for Sept. 15, but was stricken on Aug. 18 because of a motion from the prosecution to introduce evidence of prior acts of sexual misconduct.

Johnson was arraigned on the additional charges contained in that motion on Tuesday, and was remanded on all 11 charges on Wednesday.

Each Class X Felony charge carries a punishment of six to 30 years in prison, with a possible extended sentence of 30 to 60 years.

Each Class 2 Felony charge carries a punishment of three to 7 years in prison, with a possible extended sentence of seven to 14 years.

Johnson is still being held in Lee County Jail on a $150,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 6.
