Joliet man allowed children access to firearms: cops

A Joliet man was in possession of multiple firearms and allowed minor children within a residence access to those weapons, police said.

About 8:20 a.m. Thursday, officers executed a search warrant on a residence in the 600 block of East Dover Street, according to a Joliet police news release.

Detectives determined during an investigation that Jaime Briceno, 25, who lives at the residence, possessed multiple firearms, police said.

“Further investigation showed that Briceno allowed minor children within the residence access to these weapons,” police said.

During the search, Briceno was taken into custody without incident, police said.

The minor children at the residence were taken into protective custody and brought to the Joliet Police Department while they were accompanied by other adult family members, police said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified, at which time the children were released back into the care of the family, police said.

Briceno was arrested on probable cause of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and endangering the life and health of a child, Joliet police said.

At 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Briceno was taken to the Will County jail.

On Aug. 7, 2018, Briceno pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance, court records show. Another charge of obstruction of justice was dropped.

On Dec. 26, 2012, Briceno pleaded guilty to residential burglary, court records show. He was sentenced to 60 months of probation and credited with serving 201 days in jail.
