Yorkville police, parks and recreation department to host National Night Out

The Yorkville Police Department and United City of Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department will host a celebration of National Night Out from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Beecher Park.

Traditionally held on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out, according to the official website, "enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."

Due to the pandemic, organizers of National Night Out events were asked to delay until Oct. 6.

At Yorkville's "Celebrating Our Hometown Heroes," from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., families will be able to meet their favorite superheroes, participate in Superhero Training, and check out the crime-fighting vehicles of Hometown Heroes in a Touch a Truck event.

At 7 p.m., families can get cozy in their cars to watch "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" on a 30-foot inflatable screen.

Food will be available for families to enjoy, while supplies last.

All families will be asked to follow state guidelines for the pandemic while attending the event. Visit www.yorkville.il.us/763/National-Night-Out.
