Batavia Panera restaurant closes suddenly

BATAVIA – The Panera Bread restaurant in Batavia closed this week, the owners of the building on Wilson Street confirmed.

Batavia City Administrator Laura Newman said Panera did not notify the city about the closing of the location at 154 W. Wilson St. Customers said they ate at the restaurant Tuesday but returned Wednesday to find a sign indicating the site was permanently closed.

Batavia Enterprises Inc. Vice President Mike Algrim, whose company owns the building, said the location is closed but didn't have much other information.

"We're sad to see it closed," Algrim said. "We were notified similarly to the public, give or take a few days."

Panera Bread representatives did not return messages seeking comment, but the Batavia location has been removed from the company's website.

"It's been a very positive and long-standing relationship," Algrim said.
