Teen died after striking guardrail, median wall on I-355 in Lockport: cops

An 18-year-old was killed after she left the roadway on Interstate 355, struck a guardrail, crossed three lanes and then struck a median wall head on, police said.

About 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Zyane Williams was driving a silver 2019 Toyota Camry in south on I-355 at 159th Street in Lockport, according to an Illinois State Police news release.

Williams’ car left the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail, police said. Her car then moved to the left across all three lanes and struck a median wall head on, police said.

Williams was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, police said. She was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Williams was pronounced deceased at 2:14 a.m. Thursday, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

The Illinois State Police are investigating the single-vehicle fatality.

The final cause and manner of death will be determined pending the review of police, autopsy and toxicological reports, officials said.

Illinois State Police Trooper Omoayena Williams said the address on file for the victim was listed as Joliet. Will County Deputy Chief Coroner Laurie Summers said the victim was from Crest Hill.
