Polling places will be open Nov. 3

PRINCETON — Bureau County Clerk Matt Eggers reminds voters they do not have to vote by mail; the polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.

In regards to the mailings voters have been receiving about the vote-by-mail application, per law, the county clerk’s office was required to send out a vote-by-mail application. Other organizations sent out applications as well to try and push the vote by mail as much as possible. If multiple applications were sent to the county clerk’s office, only one application per person was processed.

In early September, Eggers was required by law to submit the list of voters who had not applied to vote by mail to the Illinois State Board of Elections. The Illinois State Board of Elections then submitted that list to the Secretary of State’s office to send out reminder letters about sending in a vote-by-mail application to receive a ballot via mail for the November general election.

Eggers will be required by law to send another updated list in early October to the Illinois State Board of Elections of people who have not turned in a vote-by-mail application to the county clerk’s office. So, at some point in October, everyone who has not submitted a vote-by-mail application to receive a ballot via mail, will receive another letter from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.

Voters who do not intend to vote via mail, should disregard any letters received from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office in regards to the vote-by-mail application.
