Pianist to present lecture program on Schubert at Baker Community Center in St. Charles

Local pianist and educator Janna Williamson presents "Schubert: Man of Melody and Mystery," when the "Wednesdays @ One" event series resumes Sept. 23 at Baker Community Center in St. Charles.

The Norris Cultural Arts Center continues its inaugural season of "Wednesdays @ One" at the historic Baker Community Center in downtown St. Charles. Admission is free to the all-age-appropriate event. To reserve up to four of 50 socially distanced seats, pre-register at NorrisCulturalArts.com.

Williamson reflects upon the well-loved, mysterious and misunderstood Franz Schubert and his compositions. Her presentation will explore questions of meaning in the composer’s music and how known biographical information and historical context can inform our understanding, a news release stated.

She will look to texts of Schubert’s most beloved songs and discuss how trends in his music set to poetry can give listeners clues to what significance might be found in his instrumental works, particularly those for solo piano. Williamson holds piano performance degrees from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and Wheaton College Conservatory of Music.

"Wednesdays @ One" events are made possible by a generous contribution from Colonial Cafe restaurants.
