LocalLit book spotlight: 'My Donkey and the Master'

A couple years ago when I visited local writers groups to share information about the new LocalLit newsletter, author J.L. Callison of Aurora came up to me with a slip of paper that had information on a little book he was releasing online.

The book was called "My Donkey and the Master." I finally downloaded it to read it. It's this book I'll review in Tuesday's newsletter.

The Amazon description for this 48 page book is long, so i'll just share a part of it: "When his father is killed in a construction accident, a young man is taken on as an apprentice by the, as of yet, unmarried Joseph of Nazareth. This begins a life-long association and friendship between the two men and old Jed, the young man’s donkey."

Callison wraps up his description with this: "Enjoy this fictional account of a true story from a perspective that is entertaining, yet accurate and true to history and the gospel, in all aspects."

The book's description reminds me of one my kids read when they were young and we were homeschooling: "Growing Up Where Jesus Lived," which addressed Israel's customs at the time.

I'm curious to see how Callison developed it.
