Valley View District 365 adjusts meal program for students

The Valley View School District 365U's nutrition services will continue its Remote Meals for Students program during the new school year with significant changes.

In the district, those picking up meals at the five school sites will no longer be required to display a VVSD student ID or ID number, according to a news release.

The five middle schools to pick up meals are Jane Addams, Brooks Hubert H. Humphrey, John J. Lukancic, and A. Vito Martinez.

No pre-order is needed. Meals are distributed until noon on designated pickup days, or as supplies last.

Meal delivery for remote meals is available for actively enrolled VVSD students.

The district attributed the changes to a revision in policy by the United States Department of Agriculture. The USDA reversed an earlier decision on Aug. 31 and is allowing schools to continue serving free meals to all kids through the end of the calendar year "as funding allows," according to the release.

Therefore, VVSD may offer free meals to any child in the community as the district meets the USDA criteria due to more than 50% of students qualifying for free or reduced priced meals.
