Plainfield man solicited Sandwich girls online for nude photos, according to court documents

SANDWICH – Court documents shed more light on how a Plainfield man, who was previously jailed on child pornography charges in Will County and has since been released, is now facing similar charges in DeKalb County.

Adam Budig, 22, of the 13100 block of Sunderlin Road, Plainfield, was charged Wednesday with three counts of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 4 felony; three counts of grooming, also a Class 4 felony; and 11 counts of child pornography possession, a Class 3 felony, according to a Wednesday email from Sandwich Police Chief Jim Bianchi.

According to Budig's arrest warrant out of DeKalb County, DeKalb County Judge Marcy Buick set Budig's bond at $300,000, with 10% to post bail, on Wednesday.

Bianchi said late Thursday morning the arrest warrant hasn't been served to Budig that he's aware of yet.

"Hopefully, it'll be served today," meaning Thursday, Bianchi said.

Previously, Budig was held at the Will County Jail on a $25,000 bond, with 10% to post bail, on Aug. 12, according to jail records. He had been released from the Will County Jail at 7:15 p.m. Aug. 13, per jail records.

Bianchi said Wednesday he was told Budig was brought into Will County Jail due to the new DeKalb County charges. There currently is no record of Budig being in custody at Will County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon and 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

DeKalb County Jail officials confirmed there was no one by the name of Adam Budig in custody as of 4:29 p.m. Wednesday.

According to DeKalb County court documents, several girls who attended Sandwich High School were contacted in November 2019 via Snapchat by a user who requested nude photographs and videos of the girls and three girls from the high school had responded to the requests. The user allegedly offered to pay the girls to perform and pose in the way he requested in exchange for money and free food to be delivered at the high school, per court records.

Sandwich police officials wrote in court documents a search warrant was issued to Snapchat, which identified the user's IP address to be registered to Budig's home address in Plainfield. A search warrant for the Plainfield home address also was obtained and Budig's personal devices were determined to contain child pornography.

Budig admitted during a police interview he solicited many girls for nude videos and photographs, despite knowing those girls were younger than 18 years old, according to court documents.

Police were able to identify the three victims of Budig's and confirmed that Budig possessed photos of those victims, according to court documents. Bianchi said Wednesday the minor victims were all from Sandwich and were between 13 and 18 years old.

Budig was previously arrested and charged with six counts of Class 2 felony child pornography possession in Will County, according to Will County court records.

If convicted of charges from DeKalb County, Budig could face up to 73 years in prison. If convicted of the Will County charges, he could face up to 42 years in prison.

The charges came after Sandwich Police Department – along with the Illinois State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Plainfield Police Department, Will County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois Attorney General's Office – conducted an investigation that resulted in an arrest warrant being issued by the DeKalb County States Attorney's Office for Budig.
