Plainfield man arrested on child pornography charges facing additional charges in DeKalb County

UPDATED 2:40 P.M. THURSDAY, SEPT. 3:

SANDWICH – A Plainfield man already jailed for child pornography charges in Will County is now facing more charges in DeKalb County.

Adam Budig, 22, of the 13100 block of Sunderlin Road, Plainfield, was arrested and charged with three counts of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 4 felony; three counts of grooming, also a Class 4 felony; and 11 counts of child pornography possession, a Class 3 felony, according to a Wednesday email from Sandwich Police Chief Jim Bianchi.

Budig was previously arrested and charged with six counts of Class 2 felony child pornography possession in Will County, according to Will County court records.

If convicted of charges from DeKalb County, Budig could face up to 73 years in prison. If convicted of the Will County charges, he could face up to 42 years in prison.

Bianchi said the minor victims were all from Sandwich and were between 13 and 18 years of age. He said Budig allegedly approached the victims on the internet to try to get them to expose themselves in exchange for pizzas.

"We identified three victims," Bianchi said.

The charges came after Sandwich Police Department – along with the Illinois State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Plainfield Police Department, Will County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois Attorney General's Office – conducted an investigation that resulted in an arrest warrant being issued by the DeKalb County States Attorney's Office for Budig.

Previously, Budig was held at the Will County Jail on a $25,000 bond, with 10% to post bail, on Aug. 12. He had been released from the Will County Jail at 7:15 p.m. Aug. 13, according to jail records as of 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Bianchi said he was told Budig was brought into Will County Jail due to the new DeKalb County charges. There currently is no record of Budig being in custody at Will County Jail as of 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

DeKalb County Jail officials confirmed there was no one by the name of Adam Budig in custody as of 4:29 p.m. Wednesday.

Bianchi said a DeKalb County judge set Budig's new bond at $300,000. Budig is due back in court 9 a.m. Thursday in Will County.

• The lead of this story has been updated to reflect that Budig was previously jailed, according to court records, and is not currently jailed, as police previously reported. Record Newspapers regrets the error.
