Letter: Our democracy is in danger

We are about to embark on the most important election of our lives. Our democracy is in danger. The soul of our country is in peril.

We cannot have 4 more years of Trump and his administration. He has broken so many rules and regulations over the last few years that it is mind-boggling.

How many times have we heard this word lately: unprecedented? So many I've lost count.

I am not going to rehash all of the instances over the last few years that he has proven he is unfit for the job. I want to look at just a couple of the latest episodes that really stuck in my craw.

First, the disastrous display on June 1 at Lafayette Square, removing peaceful protesters with tear gas, batons, rubber bullets and mounted police. It was reminiscent of Bloody Sunday in 1965 on Edmund Pettus Bridge. The only thing missing was the dogs. All for a photo opt of Trump standing in front of St. John's church holding a Bible upside down. How despicable.

But, what really took the cake was John Lewis. He lay in state at the Capitol, under the dome in the Rotunda for two days, and Trump couldn't even show his respect.

When I heard him say "No, I'm not going to go" I thought what? A civil rights icon and you are not going to show your respect?

That alone should be proof enough that he does not deserve a second term. He didn't deserve the first one, but that's another story.

Trump is ignorant of history and diplomacy. He inhales oxygen and exhales lies. He's a bully with no respect for justice and fair play. His own sister says he "has no principles and he
can't be trusted."

We must end this dark dangerous chapter in our lives. Trump is a stain on the Republican party. Morning in America has become Mourning in America.

Sen. Clair McCaskill summed up Trump in two words, and I quote: "incompetent jerk."

Amen.

Vote!
