Brooding about covid? Shred instead

Joliet bank hosting 2nd annual shred day to bring people together

First Secure Community Bank in Joliet doesn’t see its second annual shred day as simply a time to safely dispose of sensitive documents.

It’s also a way for the community to connect with each other, especially with people feeling stressed due to the pandemic, said Steve Jamnik, regional vice president and senior loan officer.

“Let people get out and feeling like they’re living a little bit,” Jamnik said.

The community shred day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 29 at the bank, located at 2398 Essington Road in Joliet.

Unlike many shred events, Jamnik said the bank isn’t limiting the amount of boxes a car can bring.

But be reasonable, too.

“The most people brought last year were four to five big boxes,” Jamnik said. “That’s reasonable. It’s a pretty big truck. It can hold a lot.”

Heartland Bank shred day canceled

On the other end of the spectrum, because of safety concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, Heartland Bank and Trust Co. in Shorewood has canceled its Community Shred Day.

The event was originally set for Saturday at its 700 W. Jefferson St. branch.

Heartland Bank has cancelled all planned shred days for 2020.
