As always in the summertime, and now in the midst of the pandemic, blood donors are urgently needed, the Red Cross says.
Those with types O, A negative and B negative blood are especially needed.
There are several opportunities to give blood in Dixon this week:
• from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Dixon Family YMCA, 110 N. Galena Ave.
• from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 421 S. Peoria Ave;
• from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dixon Armory, 412 Everett St.
Other Dixon drives coming up are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Dixon Elks Lodge, 1279 Franklin Grove Road, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 2 at Amboy High School, 11 E. Hawley St.
Donors should schedule an appointment and must wear a face covering or mask while donating. Social distancing will be employed.
Donors must be at least 17, or 16 with parental permission (forms for which are available on the website), must weigh more than 110 pounds, and must bring a photo ID.
Blood donors are eligible to donate every 56 days.
Go to redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767 to make an appointment.
