Ottawa native and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Michael Hermosillo was optioned to the Angels alternate training site at Long Beach State University on Monday.

Hermosillo was coming off a weekend that saw him drive in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning with a sacrifice fly to lead the Angels to a 5-4 win against the Houston Astros. He then registered a single in the bottom of the 10th inning to tie the game at 5 on Sunday, adding a stolen base and walk in the game. The Angels, however, would go on to lose in the 11th.

So far this season in seven games played, Hermosillo is 2-for-8 (.250) with a pair of RBI and a stolen base in the Angels 10 games.

The purpose of the alternate training site is to provide an additional place for players to prepare during spring training 2.0, also known as summer camp. It will be the site where the non-major leaguers on the 60-man player pools can play and train during the season.
