DeKalb police investigating homicide after 33-year-old dies after he was beaten on Ridge Drive

DeKALB - DeKalb police are investigating a homicide after a 33-year-old Aurora man was beaten in the 800 block of Ridge Drive in mid-June and then later died.

Marcus Johnson, 33, of Aurora, died July 12, according to a news release sent Monday, and police said the department was notified of the incident July 12 and uncovered further details July 24.

On June 16, Johnson was brought to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital by friends, where he reported that he was beaten and "jumped by others," the release states. That same day, Johnson was flown to a Rockford hospital due to his injures.

He died on July 12, though it's unclear at this time whether he died at a hospital or elsewhere.

On Friday, July 24, DeKalb police investigators learned Johnson was beaten at 808 Ridge Drive in DeKalb on or about June 13.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to verify Johnson's cause of death, and police are investigating the incident as a homicide.
