Bears eliminate 2020 season tickets amid uncertainty about fan attendance at Soldier Field

If the Bears are allowed to have fans in the stands at Soldier Field – which remains a big if due to the coronavirus pandemic – the team will not be offering season tickets for the 2020 season.

In a letter to season ticket holders Friday, the team announced it is expecting to reduce seating capacity at the stadium, if fans are allowed at all. All tickets for the 2020 season will be sold on a single game basis, and tickets will be made available "exclusively" to season ticket holders. Season ticket holders with a personal seat license will have first priority.

All season ticket holders will either receive a refund or 2020 payments can be credited to the 2021 season.

“We continue to work closely with city and state officials and public health experts regarding potential opportunities to allow fans to attend regular season games this fall, but the presence of and the exact number of fans that will be allowed into Soldier Field has not yet been determined,” the letter to season ticket holders stated.

More details regarding the game day experience, including parking, tailgating and food and beverage, will be released at a future date.

Players are set to begin training camp on Tuesday. The Bears will be holding camp at Halas Hall in Lake Forest for the first time since 1983, a move that was announced prior to the pandemic. Due to health and safety protocols, fans will not attend camp this year.

The Bears also announced Friday that they have canceled Family Fest, typically held at Soldier Field prior to the season, and Varsity Bears, during which the team would practice at a local high school.

"It was a tough decision, but the health & safety of everyone must remain our top priority," Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips said in a statement.
