Dan Hartman leaving Lyons Township, moving to Ohio

After one season at Lyons Township, Dan Hartman is leaving.

Lyons Athletics confirmed on Twitter that Hartman announced on July 15 that he is stepping down as head football coach and moving to Ohio for the next year.

Hartman went 4-5 in his one season in La Grange, after moving from Hinsdale Central to take over the Lions' program.

Hartman compiled a 40-13 record at Hinsdale Central, leading the Red Devils to five consecutive Class 8A playoff appearances.

"It is unfortunate that Coach Hartman is leaving LT," Lyons Athletic Director John Grundke said in an email. "He is a great coach and he did some great things here. I was looking forward to watching him continue to work with our community for many more years."

Grundke said that Lyons has already begun the process of finding a replacement for Hartman.

"I have spoken with many individuals both here at LT and outside," Grundke said. "We will move the process quickly, but we need to make sure we find the right person."

Grundke said that Lyons has run camp virtually this year, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions put in place by the IHSA. He said that will continue with the assistant coaches continuing on with the athletes.

Hartman did not respond to phone calls and text messages seeking comment.
