DeKALB – A former Newman Central Catholic High School Comet and NIU Huskie is headed to Spain.
Noah McCarty will begin his professional basketball career with Club Basquet Benicarlo in Benicarlo, Spain, on the Mediterranean coast.
The team announced the move on Twitter Monday, saying "Noah stands out for his game with his back to the basket, his vision of the game and his ability to assist, in addition to his outside shot."
CB Benicarlo went 6-16 in the first stage of the LEB Plata West Division in 2019-20 before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.
McCarty, of Rock Falls, earned a spot in the starting rotation early in his senior season in 2019-20 at Northern Illinois, averaging 27.6 minutes per game, as well as scoring 5.3 points per game and grabbing 5.5 rebounds.
The Huskies' season was also cut short by COVID-19 after having earned a first-round bye in the MAC Tournament before the tournament was called off the day before NIU was scheduled to tip off in Cleveland.
