Northern Illinois-Brigham Young football moved to Huskie Stadium

Oct. 24 game originally slated for SeatGeek Stadium

Northern Illinois University's football team will host Brigham Young University on Oct. 24 in Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, bringing the game originally scheduled for SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview back to campus, NIU officials announced Wednesday.

Because of restrictive stadium capacity limits and safety measures set in place by the state of Illinois during the COVID-19 pandemic, NIU and Bridgeview officials agreed to move the game out of SeatGeek Stadium.

"Our team and staff were looking forward to the opportunity to play the 2020 Huskie Chi-Town Showdown versus BYU at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview this October," NIU athletic director Sean Frazier said in a statement. "COVID-19 has obviously brought about many changes for all of us, and we continue to adapt and make the best decisions possible for NIU, our student-athletes and fans.

“Thanks to the leadership of the city of Bridgeview and SeatGeek Stadium, who have continued to be great partners in this process. We hope to continue our relationship and will look for an opportunity to bring a game to SeatGeek Stadium in the future."

NIU now is scheduled to play five Saturday home games – and six total games – in Huskie Stadium in 2020. The BYU game is the second game on the Huskies' 2020 schedule to undergo changes over the past several weeks. On June 22, the Mid-American Conference announced the NIU-Buffalo game originally scheduled to be played Nov. 3 will be played Oct. 31, after the NCAA encouraged all member institutions to suspend athletics activities on Election Day.

Season ticket holders who purchased the five-game Huskie Stadium package will be contacted by the Huskie Athletics Ticket Office staff via phone or email regarding adding the BYU game to their tickets for 2020. Season ticket members also can email or call 815-753-7225 for more information.

Those who have purchased tickets to the NIU-BYU game directly through SeatGeek will have their tickets refunded. Those ticket buyers will have an option to purchase tickets to the game at Huskie Stadium online or will be contacted individually by the NIU Athletics Ticket Office.

Season tickets remain on sale and can be purchased online at or by calling 815-753-7225. Details on 2020 seating plans and game-day operational changes will be announced Thursday. Season ticket members also will receive an email detailing those changes.

If the schedule undergoes more changes because of state, university or conference mandates, options are in place for season ticket members, including the ability to roll their season ticket payment to 2021, make a donation to the Huskie Athletic Fund or request a full refund in writing.
