Former Prairie Ridge quarterback and two-time IHSA Class 6A state champion Samson Evans is transferring to Eastern Michigan.

247Sports first reported the Iowa running back will join the Eagles program. Evans has since changed his Twitter bio to "RB @ EMU."

Evans did not see any game action in two years at Iowa. He redshirted as a freshman and still has three years of eligibility remaining.

The three-time Northwest Herald Football Player of the Year award winner led Prairie Ridge to Class 6A state titles in 2016 and 2017, and a 28-0 record during those two seasons. He was a punishing ball carrier for Prairie Ridge, handling snaps as quarterback in their triple-option offense. Evans is No. 8 on the IHSA career rushing list (6,386 yards) and No. 4 on the all-time rushing touchdown list (112).

Evans told Friday Night Drive last month that he had hoped to use spring football this year to earn more playing time at Iowa. After spring practices were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Evans said he "believed it was time for me to go."

His teammate at Prairie Ridge and Iowa, lineman Jeff Jenkins, is also transferring out of the Hawkeyes program. Jenkins has not yet announced a transfer destination.

Evans and his family are well acquainted with Mid-American Conference football. Samson’s older brother Shane Evans started his college career on the offensive line at Northern Illinois, before later transferring to Purdue.

Younger brother Carter Evans, a versatile senior at Prairie Ridge this fall, has numerous MAC offers, including one from Eastern Michigan.

Eastern Michigan football has experienced a revival under head coach Chris Creighton. The Eagles have reached bowl games in three of the past four seasons, after not previously reaching a bowl since 1987. The program has won a game against a Big Ten opponent in three straight seasons: Rutgers (2017), Purdue (2018) and Illinois (2019).
