Peru native and Broadway actor will appear in livestream video to recognize local entertainers

Author and Broadway actor Frank Vlastnik will appear Sunday in a livestream interview recognizing local entertainers.

Vlastnik is a Peru native and 1983 graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School and a 1987 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University. He is a published author who has starred on Broadway in "The Sweet Smell of Success" and "The Frog and the Toad," and has numerous TV credits including "Law & Order" and "Elementary," starring Lucy Liu. He made his Broadway debut in 1996 in “Big,” a stage adaptation of the hit film starring Tom Hanks.

He will appear at 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Zoom with Illinois Valley Community College producer-instructor Don Grant Zellmer to discuss his craft and latest projects. The interview can be viewed on Facebook at the IVCC Fine Arts page.

Through Zoom, Zellmer has hosted Illinois Valley natives and IVCC alumni who have worked in the entertainment industry. Past interview subjects included Howard Johnson of Ottawa, a member of the Monty Python comedy troupe, Eric Chambliss, who was touring with “Jersey Boys,” and Chris Coughlin from NCIArtworks. (All past interviews also can be viewed on the Facebook page.)

"We've had great response for our interview series on IVCC Fine Arts, especially with the "local guy makes good" interviews," Zellmer said. "These Living Room Stage Live events are our way in the IVCC Theatre Department to provide entertainment in some way since "The Show Cannot Go On."
