Benedictine the ‘right fit’ for Mooney

St. Bede senior Trevor Mooney pretty much knew he wanted to play for Jim Schroeder when he first met the Benedictine University head football coach at the Academy.

After two visits to the Lisle campus, Mooney was hooked on playing for Benedictine. The Bruins linebacker recently made it official, signing his letter of intent with the Eagles.

“I met coach Schroeder here at school and immediately there was just a connection. I went and visited Benedictine twice, and both times I just felt like it was a perfect fit for me,” Mooney said. “I really grew to know coach Schroeder, and he’s just a great guy.”

Mooney said he’s very excited to get started at Benedictine.

Mooney was a First Team All-BCR and Second Team TRAC Mississippi selection. He was the Bruins’ top tackler with 85, tied for fourth best in the area.

Schroeder has found the Illinois Valley to be a hot bed for talent when he was head coach at Rockford University for four years prior to returning to Benedictine in the spring of 2019.

Schroeder initially joined the Benedictine coaching staff in 2005 as defensive coordinator and added the title of football recruiting coordinator following the 2007 season.

Benedictine went 7-3 last year, 6-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
