Coach Jason Cavanaugh's comments: "We have a lot of guys competing for different positions. We have two guys competing for the catching position and a lot of guys competing for the corner outfield spots.

The biggest issue is last year when you're a really good time and you're running five junior college baseball players out there, that doesn't leave juniors a lot of time to get their feet wet."

The lowdown: With 21 players on varsity, five of which will only pitch, the Spartans are looking to reload once more in a new conference after several late losses kept Sycamore from earning a share of the conference title. The Spartans lost five players who committed to play junior college ball. Cavanaugh said runs may be hard to come by, but he expects good pitching and defense.
