DeKalb teen charged with armed robbery of man on his way back from food run

DeKALB – A man who was walking back from picking up a food order Monday afternoon was robbed at gunpoint by a DeKalb teen, police say.

The robbery happened about 4:30 p.m., Monday in the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive, said DeKalb Police Cmdr. Bob Redel.

"The victim called in and said he was robbed at gunpoint," Redel said. "He left a local restaurant, and [then] had a food order he purchased and personal property stolen from him."

The victim was not hurt, Redel said.

He said the victim told police a handgun was displayed during the robbery.

DeKalb Police arrested a 17-year-old teenager for the armed robbery a couple hours later, Redel said. He said the teen would be tried as a juvenile.

Redel said he did not want to detail what personal property was stolen, but he did say that the victim had to go to a phone and make a report.

Redel said there's a lot of foot traffic along the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive, since there are a number of restaurants, including Burritoville, Tacos Salsas Y Carnitas and Sea Captain.
