Cops: Joliet man uploaded child pornography with Snapchat app

A Joliet man was arrested after Illinois State Police investigated a Snapchat account he was using to upload child pornography, police said.

State police investigators executed a search warrant on Thursday at the residence of 21-year-old Deon J. Wallace in the 1100 block of Bartel Road, according to a police news release.

State police said an internet protocol address registered to Wallace’s residence was associated with a Snapchat account that was uploading images identified as child pornography.

Snapchat is a smartphone app that allows users to upload photos or videos, and chat with other users.

During the execution of the warrant, state police investigators met with Wallace and arrested him on a charge of child pornography possession, police said. Wallace was booked into the Will County jail at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office filed three counts of child pornography against Wallace the next day.

During a court hearing Friday, a judge set Wallace’s bond at $30,000 and ordered him to have no contact with anyone under the age of 17 outside of household members, according to court records.

The judge also ordered Wallace to be on house arrest and to obtain GPS monitoring after he is released, court records show. He was also barred from having any access to the internet except for medical or court purposes.

Wallace posted 10% of his bond and he was released at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 27 for a preliminary hearing.
