Geneva to replace fire panel in parking garage

Obsolete fire panel sends out false alarms

GENEVA – Aldermen approved spending $10,000 to buy and install a fire notifier panel for the Third Street parking garage at the Nov. 4 City Council meeting.

Over the past year, the fire panel in the city’s parking garage has had multiple failures that caused unnecessary call-outs to the Fire Department, officials said.

Service technicians and the manufacturer both determined that it was caused by the control panel failing and recommended replacing the entire panel, officials said.

Fox Valley Fire & Safety of Aurora performed a service call for the fire alarm panel in September and determined it is obsolete. It recommended it be replaced and initiating devices be upgraded to be compatible with a new fire panel system, according to a letter from the company.
