Homeless man arrested, hospitalized in Cary

A 58-year-old homeless man was arrested and hospitalized with a minor injury on Thursday after allegedly breaking into a Cary home, according to a news release from the Cary Police Department.

Officers were dispatched about 11 a.m. to the 200 block of South Spring Street for a report of an unwanted male subject inside a Cary residence.

The offender, who was identified as Thomas Freeman, left the house on foot after he was confronted by the homeowner, according to the release. Police later found him near the scene.

Although Freeman stated he was in possession of a firearm, no weapon was found on him or in the immediate area.

Freeman had suffered a minor injury after trying to flee from the scene and was taken to an area hospital for treatment before being transported to the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility, according to the release.

Freeman was charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison.

In light of this recent arrest, the Cary Police Department is reminding residents to call 911 if they observe any suspicious activity.
