Area roundup: Lockport girls volleyball beats Lincoln-Way West

The Lockport girls volleyball team had to work hard to collect a SouthWest Suburban crossover victory against Lincoln-Way West on Tuesday night.

The Porters took the first set, 25-13, and dropped the second, 27-25, before closing out the match with a 25-10 win in the third set.

Taylor Morgan had 14 kills and two blocks to pace the Lockport attack, while Nadia Goich did plenty of damage at the net with 12 kills.

Marist def. Joliet Catholic, 25-21, 25-22: The Angels came up short in a East Suburban Catholic Conference loss.

Riley Hungate and Emily Surin each had three kills for Joliet Catholic (11-7 overall, 1-3 East Suburban Catholic Conference).

Sandburg def. Lincoln-Way Central, 25-21, 25-18: The Knights came up short in a SouthWest Suburban Conference crossover match.

Katie Barry did manage 10 kills for the Knights, while Nicole Ramirez contributed 21 assists and eight digs to the cause.

Herscher def. Coal City, 25-8, 25-17: The Coalers scuffled against a strong team in Illinois Central Eight Conference play.

BOYS SOCCER

Minooka 6, Plainfield South 1: The Indians put together an electric performance for the second consecutive day, as they picked up a Southwest Prairie Conference victory.

Ben Joder and Blake Brandenburg each scored two goals to lead the Minooka offense, while Alex Richter and Michael Ruettiger also found the back of the net.

Herscher 7, Reed-Custer 0: The Comets had trouble engineering much offense in an Illinois Central Eight Conference matchup.

MEN’S GOLF

Lewis takes ninth at Flyer Intercollegiate: The Flyers took ninth at the event hosted by Cog Hill’s Dubsdread Course. Lewis shot a team score of 626 for the two-day event. Trey Tussey was the top individual with a two-round score of 150 that tied him for ninth.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Lewis claims third at Flyer Intercollegiate: Lewis finished just one shot out of second, turning in a 650 total for the two-day event. Kasey Kane tied for seventh with a 156 for the two days.
