Tourism office moves to Amboy

AMBOY – It’s not that big of a trip: The Lee County Tourism Council now can be found at 37 S. East Ave.

It moved from its longtime spot at 113 S. Peoria Ave. in Dixon, after its lease was up.

There was some concern about leaving Dixon, because the office is run by two part-timers who attend meetings in or near the city, but after looking at at least 10 spaces, the search moved outside the city, Executive Director Diane Nicholson said.

When they found their new location, it was like “everything fell into place,” Nicholson said.

The new office needed some “tender loving care,” but with the help of the Lee County Farm Bureau, renovations took about 3 weeks, and now everything is like new, she said.

“New paint, new ceiling, new window treatments, new carpet – it’s so nice. All the other tenants that are in here are so nice and so gracious and so kind and helpful,” Nicholson said.

The council now shares space with the Lee County Farm Bureau and Country Financial.

Grace Fellowship Church Amboy-Sublette, which used to be in the building, is celebrating a grand opening at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 6 at its new home at 500 W. Main St. in Sublette.

The council office is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 815-288-1840, find it on Facebook or go to leecountyfun.com to learn more.
