Jacobs to induct 5 members into Hall of Fame

Five new members will be welcomed to the Jacobs High School Hall of Fame on Sept. 6 when the Golden Eagles host Huntley in football.

There will be a dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the commons area; the Hall of Fame Committee asks for $25 donations to take part. The ceremony will begin about 6:10, then the group will walk to the football field, and the inductees will be recognized at halftime. The football game is scheduled to kick off at 7.

Heather Rayka (1986), Annie Smith Roebke (2008), Neil Posmer (1996), Nikki Klier (2006) and Pat Peas (contributor) comprise the Hall of Fame Class of 2019.

Rayka was Jacobs’ Outstanding Female Athlete in 1986 when she was volleyball MVP and basketball co-MVP. She also was co-MVP of both teams as a junior. She was second in the Fox Valley Conference in scoring as a senior and led the FVC in scoring as a sophomore in basketball.

Roebke, who is married with two daughters, played three sports her first two years of high school before concentrating on tennis. She was the Eagles’ No. 1 singles player three years and qualified for state three times. She played tennis at NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater and ranks second in most singles wins for a career.

Klier was a three-sport athlete, competing in cross country, basketball and track and field, and was selected as Jacobs’ 2006 Outstanding Female Athlete. She was All-FVC in basketball and a state qualifier in track with four relay teams. She finished her career as Jacobs’ all-time points leader in track for her career, and ran at D-I Western Illinois.

Posmer was one of the best wrestlers in school history, finishing with a career mark of 110-24. He took sixth in Class AA at 135 pounds his senior year. Posmer wrestled at Marquette, where he was 136-52 for his career, putting him fourth in the program’s history. He was Marquette’s MVP three times.

Peas retired this spring as athletic secretary, a position she held since 1995. She worked for seven athletic directors at Jacobs and was honored as Administrative Assistant of the Year by the Illinois Athletic Directors Association for the 2018-19 school year.
