Amazon fulfillment center in Monee to host tours for residents

The Amazon fulfillment center in Monee is offering free tours for residents this summer.

Those interested in scheduling a tour of the facility can do so online at amazon.com/fctours for selected dates throughout July and August, according to a news release. Participants will get a chance to see how Amazon workers pick, pack and ship customer orders that are delivered throughout Illinois and how they use state-of-the-art technology to locate specific items.

The warehouse is the size of 14 football fields and is packed with millions of products with miles of conveyor belts taking packages around the center.

Amazon started hosting public tours in 2014. Since then, the company has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors each year, from students to elected officials to nonprofit organizations.

The 850,000-square-foot Monee site started hosting public tours this past February and is one of 23 fulfillment centers in the country to offer them.

Amazon opened its Monee fulfillment center in 2017, the fourth in Will County.
