The Joliet City Council Stadium Committee agreed Monday to advance a stadium naming rights agreement to the full council for a vote without knowing exactly what's in it.
The committee voted, 3-0, to send the agreement for the city-owned baseball stadium to the full council for a vote Tuesday.
Interim City Manager Steve Jones told the committee the agreement is “a good deal” financially.
Jones said he was able to read the agreement after signing a nondisclosure agreement.
The agreement will produce more revenue than a previous agreement with Silver Cross Hospital, he said.
Joliet would get “over $30,000 in net revenue in the first year” of the agreement and “40,000-plus” in subsequent years, Jones said.
He would not say the total dollars in the deal or its length, which the Joliet Slammers and DuPage Medical Group want to keep confidential.
The stadium would be renamed DuPage Medical Group Field.
The Slammers baseball team, which leases the stadium, negotiated the agreement for the city with DuPage Medical Group
The City Council will vote on a naming rights agreement that discloses 13 elements of the naming rights agreement that had previously been disclosed in a memorandum of understanding signed by former interim City Manager Martin Shanahan.
DuPage Medical Group gets 500 reserved flex tickets good for any game, use of the stadium for one nongame day each year, and other privileges.
Jones said there are additional elements of the agreement that are not being disclosed.
The committee voted to move the agreement to the council without a recommendation.
The council also will vote to rescind the Joliet Route 66 Stadium name it gave the stadium in 2017.
The committee talked about possibly bringing the name back in the future when the pending agreement ends, although Chairman Pat Mudron noted, “We don’t know if that’s three, five or 10 years.”
