Will County Board member announces retirement

A Democratic Will County Board member from Romeoville is retiring from his position next month.

The board announced at its Thursday meeting that Don Moran would be stepping down. Moran had served on the board since he was first elected in 2012 to represent the residents of the 3rd District, which includes parts of Bolingbrook, Lockport and Romeoville. He was reelected in 2016 for a second four-year term.

Democratic Majority Leader Mark Ferry, D-Plainfield, read a letter from Moran aloud at the meeting in which he explained that he was able to retire early from his full-time job. He had always intended to retire from both jobs at the same time in 2020 and move to Arizona.

“Over the years I’ve seen too many friends and loved ones work beyond the necessary time only to squander what could have been a rich period in their life to only have their life end perhaps sooner than they ever imagined,” Moran wrote in the letter.

Moran served on the Will County Workforce Investment Board and as an executive board member of the Three Rivers Construction Alliance, according to the county board website.

He worked in sheet metal for 30 years and was a representative for the Sheet Metal Workers Local 265 since 1999. Moran is a graduate of Joliet East High School and served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve.
