Algonquin Township Trustee Melissa Victor resigning

Algonquin Township Trustee Melissa Victor will be stepping down from the board effective April 29, according to a resignation letter sent to Supervisor Charles Lutzow dated Thursday.

Victor was elected to the Cary Park District board earlier this month, and she previously said it was her intention to serve in both roles, barring any potential conflict of interest. However, after receiving several legal opinions regarding the compatibility of the elected positions, Victor said in her resignation letter that she believes her two positions are incompatible for dual-elected service.

“It has been an honor to serve the residents of Algonquin Township on this board, and I am forever grateful for having been granted the opportunity,” Victor said in the letter.

Lutzow said the township will take out an ad and conduct interviews to find an appointee for the board.

With budget discussions coming up in May, Lutzow said the board may not interview any potential candidates until June.

Victor received the highest percentage of the vote in a three-way race for two open seats on the Cary park board.

“I am very excited to be an active part of the future of the Cary Park District and look forward to working with the fellow Cary park commissioner board members and staff,” Victor said in a statement.
