Coroner IDs Joliet shooting victim

26-year-old died of single gunshot wound, Will County Coroner's Office said

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the Joliet man who was shot and killed Monday on the city’s east side.

Dimitri Allen, 26, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest in a yard in the 1100 block of Cutter Avenue. He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox where he was pronounced dead at 12:41 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday that found Allen died of the single gunshot wound. The final cause and manner of death will be determined following completed police, autopsy and toxicology reports.

The Joliet Police Department is handling the investigation into the shooting. On Tuesday, JPD sent out a news release seeking the public’s assistance, asking if anyone has surveillance video or information.
