Amboy nursing home closing its doors

AMBOY – Maple Crossing at Amboy will be closing its doors after officials said Friday that the facility no longer is financially viable.

The rehabilitation and memory care facility at 15 W. Wasson Road is home to 32 residents employees 62 people.

Momentum Healthcare LLC took over management of Maple Crossing, formerly Aperion Care of Amboy, in 2017, and the company plans to see that the residents find alternative housing within 90 days of the closing and that jobs are provided for “as many of the staff as possible,” it said in a news release Friday.

“Although a very difficult task, we will be trying to minimize any disruption to the residents, staff, and community, as we know they are not to blame,” Momentum Healthcare President Moe Herman said in the release. “It is unfortunate that we have all become victims of the regulatory aspect of long-term care.”

According to the news release attributed to management:

“Despite the efforts of our excellent staff and community, we have not been able to make the facility financially viable. The cost of maintaining the aging physical plant, dwindling census, rising cost and low reimbursement coupled with the very tough long-term care business environment in the state of Illinois has made continuing operations not feasible.”

“This is a difficult time with all the challenges in long-term care this facility has faced.”

Maple Crossing is a 97-bed facility specializing in short-term care for patients recovering from an illness or injury, as well as long-term care for those who no longer can remain at home. It also has a 17-bed secured unit for Alzheimer’s and dementia residents.

Momentum also operates Oregon Living and Rehabilitation Center, Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center, The Meadows Assisted Living of Franklin Grove, and Prairie Crossing Living and Rehabilitation and Prairie Crossing Supportive Living, both in Shabbona.
