McHenry County College history instructor named Illinois Humanities Road Scholar

McHenry County College history instructor Sarah Sullivan, a Crystal Lake resident, recently was accepted into the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars program for 2019 to 2021.

She joins a speakers bureau of writers, storytellers, historians, folklorists, musicians and living history actors who will share a high-quality cultural program with community members for free.

Sullivan will speak about the Emancipation Proclamation and Abraham Lincoln’s evolving views on slavery, as well as Marshall Field’s and Chicago.

Sullivan is a full-time history instructor and department chairwoman at MCC, where she has taught history and business classes for more than 20 years. Her areas of focus include women’s history, the American Revolution and 19th century political and social history.
