Midwestern BioAg to increase focus on demand for organics

MADISON, Wis. – Midwestern BioAg is ramping up its efforts to meet the growing demand for organic crops.

The Madison, Wisconsin-based company focuses on products promoting soil health and has 10 facilities throughout the Midwest, including a fertilizer blending and distribution plant in Milledgeville at 1 Zimmer Way that opened in 2016.

It customizes fertilizer blends for farmers by testing their soil, analyzing the results and putting together a recipe aimed at increasing soil health and yields.

The company is creating a new division to act as a resource for existing and transitioning organic farmers to help with challenges that may arise.

“The division’s objective is to provide opportunities for growers to take advantage of the Midwestern BioAg expertise with a program that streamlines organic transitions and limits financial risk,” BioAg CEO Tony Michaels said in a news release Wednesday. “At the same time, we will also work with consumer-driven companies to source the organics ingredients for their products that the industry is hungry for.”

Ben Adolph, director of farmland sustainability, will lead the farm management team and focus on management strategies for farmers’ agricultural goods, data, and land, and Jon Phillips, a graduate of University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences Program, will be the data analytics coordinator.

Midwestern BioAg was founded in 1983 and sells products in 41 states and three Canadian provinces.
