Huntley junior Ian Geisler saved his best for last, which was saying something because he ran consistently well all season.

Geisler was runner-up in the Fox Valley Conference Meet, champion at the Class 3A Guilford Regional, runner-up at the Waubonsie Valley Sectional and 17th at the state meet to earn Class 3A All-State honors.

Geisler was selected as the Northwest Herald Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, following his All-Area first-team selection as a sophomore.

Geisler and teammates Jadon Conroy, Jeremy Roe and Chris Simek led the Red Raiders to the FVC championship and a berth in the state meet.

Geisler answered a few questions from Northwest Herald senior sports writer Joe Stevenson about pre-race food, hidden talents and superhero powers, among other things.

What sport that you don’t compete in would you be good at?

Geisler: I believe I would be a good wrestler. I have a lot of endurance, and I have been fairly strong for as light and small as I am. Sure, I would have to learn the moves, but once I would learn those, I think I could hold my own.

What is your favorite class in high school?

Geisler: My favorite class in high school is chemistry. My teacher (shoutout to Mr. Klein) makes it very interesting and entertaining to learn.

What are three sports movies you can watch over and over?

Geisler: “Hoosiers,” “Moneyball” and “McFarland.”

What do you eat in the morning before a race, and how long before you run?

Geisler: I eat oatmeal for breakfast and have a few handfuls of Cheerios about an hour-and-a-half before I race.

Who is your funniest teammate?

Geisler: Shaaf Iqbal is the funniest guy on the team. We all joke around, but it’s his references and his delivery of jokes that makes him the funniest.

What would be the name of your soap opera character (your middle name and the street you live on)?

Geisler: Joesph Wexford.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Geisler: I can make quite a few strange noises with my mouth and throat that most people can’t do.

What is your favorite video game?

Geisler: “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.”

What is the best Christmas present you have ever given someone?

Geisler: My sister (Katie) used to always wear one of my state sweatshirts from middle school, so I decided to give her one.

If you could run anywhere in the country after high school, what college would you pick?

Geisler: I would probably pick Notre Dame to run at. They have some amazing runners on their team now and plenty of tough guys coming in. It’s a great academic school as well. Along with all of that, it’s not too far from home.

Who are your favorite professional runners?

Geisler: Evan Jager, Ben Blankenship, Matt Centrowitz and Galen Rupp.

If you were a superhero, what would your power and name be?

Geisler: I would have the superpower of controlling time, and my name would be Timeline.

What is the last really good book you read?

Geisler: “Divided We Fall” by Trent Ready.

What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Geisler: Vanilla because it is the best flavor for toppings.
