PLAINFIELD – On Nov. 28, a Graphic Novel Gala was hosted at Indian Trail Middle School’s media center.
Media center specialist Aggie Valenti-Ferris hosted the gala to celebrate the purchase of more than 200 new graphic novels and Hi-Lo books with a $2,914 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
Graphic novels have comic-like pictures and often are favored by young-adult readers.
Hi-Lo books feature high interest topics geared toward a lower reading level to get struggling readers interested.
Students who frequent the media center were invited to check out the new novels during the event, which also included star-shaped cookies and decorations. Valenti-Ferris chose the titles based on student recommendations, awards lists and research.
