Sycamore alderwoman resigns after moving out of ward

SYCAMORE – Becky Springer, 3rd Ward alderwoman on the Sycamore City Council, has announced her resignation because her family moved to another ward, leaving her ineligible to serve.

"I am grateful for having had the opportunity to serve the city of Sycamore for the past two years and wish nothing but the best for Sycamore," Springer said in a statement.

Springer was elected to the council in 2015 and had served on the Finance and Public Works Committees. Under city code, Mayor Curt Lang will now appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of Springer's term, which ends in 2019.

Lang thanked Springer and called her a great alderwoman.

“I think she has had 100 percent attendance since she was elected and has shown a lot of interest in the agenda and the affairs of the city,” Lang said. “I wish her well in her new home.”

Lang added that he plans to appoint her replacement by the council's Sept. 5 meeting.

Interested parties living in the 3rd Ward can submit a letter of interest to Sycamore HR Director Maggie Peck at 308 W. State St. in Sycamore. Lang said letters can also be emailed to him at clang@cityofsycamore.com

Information about the opening is available on the city's website.
