Awards plentiful for Milledgeville FFA at leadership convention

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville High School FFA gave a presentation to the Chadwick-Milledgeville Board of Education June 20 about their attendance at the 88th Illinois FFA Leadership Conference in Springfield.

Wendy Erbsen, FFA advisor, said 32 individuals from the Milledgeville area attended the convention to enjoy the keynote addresses, award presentations and science fair contest.

Award recipients at the State Convention included State Degree recipient Collin Eubanks, whose 3 year project involved bee care and food service. In the fall, Eubanks will attend Highland Community College to study to become an agriculture teacher.

Star over Illinois American Degree recipient Alan Osterhaus, whose 4 year project involved dairy production, will be continuing at University of Platteville to study dairy science.

Erbsen said FFA Stars are chosen based on the most outstanding Supervised Agriculture Experience Program within their respective degree and category. Winners maintain a comprehensive record keeping system to help justify and explain their SAE project.

American Degree recipient Baily Queckboerner's 4 year project involved beef production. She will be graduating from Illinois Central College, where he studies precision agriculture.

American Degree recipient Owen Brown's 3 year project involved goat production and nursery placement. In the fall, Brown will be continuing at University of Platteville to study crop science.

American Degree recipient Rebecca Alexander, whose 4 year project involved equine production, will attend Highland Community College to study agriculture business and health care.

Chapter President Mady Fink received a Bronze award for outstanding Chapter President.

Four members participated in the State Science Fair contest: Natalie Brown, Mady Fink, Mady Frederick, and Natalie Osterhaus. Both Frederick and Brown received blue awards.

Alex Kersten and Natalie Osterhaus served as State Delegates representing the chapter.
