Fox Lake-area fire causes ‘significant damage,’ firefighters say

A Fox Lake-area blaze destroyed a garage, leaving the attached home uninhabitable Saturday afternoon, Fox Lake fire officials said.

The fire was called in before 2 p.m., Fox Lake Battalion Chief Ed Lescher said on the scene in the 34000 block of Iroquois Trail, which lies in the Fox Lake Fire Protection District’s jurisdiction.

There were no injuries, Lescher said, adding the homeowner was in the process of moving and was not at the residence at the time of the fire. The district responded after a neighbor called to report visible smoke.

“There’s pretty significant damage to the garage,” Lescher said.

The home’s interior sustained some smoke and water damage, too.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames and smoke engulfing the garage. About 22 firefighters worked to put out the fire, which was extinguished in about 20 minutes, Lescher said.

Firefighters remained on the scene hours later for an investigation. Lescher could not confirm a cause, but said it appears the fire was unintentional and not suspicious in nature.

The Round Lake Fire Department and the McHenry Township Fire Protection District assisted on the scene, and the Spring Grove Fire Protection District provided a change of quarters.
