Lake in the Hills police activity puts 3 D-158 schools on lockdown

LAKE IN THE HILLS – School District 158 locked down the three schools on its Reed Road Campus early Tuesday afternoon at the request of police investigating several reports of area burglaries.

The Huntley-based district locked down Chesak and Martin elementary schools and Marlowe Middle School at 2:10 p.m. at the request of the Lake in the Hills Police Department, and lifted the lockdown about a half-hour later, according to a bulletin posted to the district's website. Officials called the lockdown a "precautionary measure while police cleared the area in response to recent reports of burglaries in the area."

Buses ended up running about 20 minutes late because of the lockdown.

A number of parents posted angry comments on the district's Facebook page, wondering why they did not get an alert text and only found out about the lockdown through social media and from their children at school. The district responded that it had "technical difficulties" with its alert system and is working to fix the problem.
